The Museum
of Modern Art

The museum is located in the old town centre in a completely restructured building that belonged to the Carmina brothers and Pietro Sias, protagonist of the cultural life of Atzara of the first '900.

The building is on three floors with an external structure in iron-glass and an internal one in wood: strong chestnut trunks are placed in a radiant halo to support the ceiling.

MUSEUM ROUTE

In the reception there is a photographic exhibit that represents life moments of the town at the beginning of the '900's. In the halls "A" and "B" (ground and first floor) there are the works of art of Spanish, German, Italian and major painters of the island on permanent exhibit.
On the first floor there is the painting "Donne di Sardegna" (Sardinian women) by Antonio Ortiz Echagüe, given in commodate by the Istituto Superiore Etnografico and a copy by Ortiz of the painting "La Festa della confraternita di Azara" (the festivity of the brotherhood of Atzara); the original can be found in the museum "San Telmo" of San Sebastian. In hall "C" (third floor) there are temporary exhibits.
